Another Appointment, Another Update...

Well, after my phone call from my Dr. telling me about the positive test result that came back, both Chad and I had a pretty sleepless night.  Of course, we looked it up online to get some more information.  I was concerned every time I would feel a contraction coming on, and I was beginning to wonder if I was possibly leaking amniotic fluid.  I was near tears while getting ready for work the next morning, worrying about this baby coming far too soon, and my mind raced a million miles an hour on my way to work the next morning.

I got to work, and was feeling completely unsettled.  I told Chad that I feel like it's way to much pressure put on me when my Dr. says to come in right away if the contractions get worse.

Get worse according to what standards??  Was this one worse than the last?? Are these too frequent??

I had so many questions, and concerns.  My main one being the fear that I was leaking amniotic fluid.  I have another appointment set up for Tuesday, but I knew that was too long to wait if this really is the fluid leaking.  I finally just called.  They responded to me immediately, and asked that I come in to get checked.  I left work, with the support of my awesome co-workers who all stepped up to help with my class.  I didn't even have a chance to sit down in the waiting room- they called me right back.

My Dr. came in, and of course lightened the mood as he always does- We so appreciate his sense of humor!  He sat with me for a long time, listened to my concerns, thanked me for coming in, and eased my mind as much as possible.  He shared with me that at 29 1/2 weeks we have already passed 2 very critical milestones with baby.  He said the chance of survival at this point is excellent.  Baby would need to be put into a NICU unit for a couple of months at this point, but would survive.  He also shared that right now we are really wanting to make it to 34 weeks.  That is our goal at this point.

He pulled me in for another ultra sound.  Right away checking my fluid levels.  They are good.  He said 20 is high, and I am at 16.5.  He was very happy with that.  He checked on baby again.  Baby is great!  My weight has dropped, but baby is gaining!  When we had our ultra-sound on Wednesday afternoon, baby weighed 3 lbs. 2 oz.  Friday morning when I went in, baby weighed 3 lbs. 6 oz!  4 oz in a little over a day!  We were happy with that!  He also checked my cervix to see what was going on.  Baby's head is resting right on it- which is where the pressure is coming from, and why I am having the contractions.  My cervix measured 4 inches, which he was happy with for now.

My Dr. is one of the absolute best in the area- I trust him, and know that he is doing everything he can and knows how at this point.  He did share with me again that it is VERY rare to have the Fetal Fibronectin test come back positive.  He was as shocked as we are.  At this point he wants me off my feet as much as possible, I need to read my body, and contact him with any concerns at any time.   I walked out of this appointment with a smile on my face- I appreciate him, and am thankful that I have a Dr. like him that I can really trust.  On his way out of the room he said to me- "It's always a pleasure to see you.  Come in or call at any time with any concerns.  We will get you and Baby through this, and you will deliver a healthy Baby."

Again- thanks for all of the prayers, comments, support, and concerns from all of you.  It is very much appreciated.  We are taking it day-by-day at this point, and counting down until 34 weeks.

wow, what a blessing to have a doctor like him! i'm so grateful he welcomed you in so willingly and put so many of your worries at ease. thank god. I hope you can continue to get the rest you need, and feel confident in listening to your body, the way you have been.
liz and I have a cousin who delivered her daughter at just 24 weeks. it was a shock, but she survived and is now a VERY healthy 5-year-old! incredible what modern medicine is capable of. all the same, i'll keep praying your wee one incubates until a healthy 34 weeks. :) hang in there, jill!
